Optical Signatures of Electron Correlations in the Cuprates

چکیده

The f-sum rule is introduced and its applications to electronic and vibrational modes are discussed. A related integral over the intra-band part of σ(ω) which is also valid for correlated electrons, becomes just the kinetic energy if the only hopping os between nearest-neighbor sites. A summary is given of additional sum-rule expressions for the optical conductivity and the dielectric function, including expressions for the first and second moment of the optical conductivity, and a relation between the Coulomb correlation energy and the energy loss function. It is shown from various examples, that the optical spectra of high Tc materials along the c-axis and in the ab-plane direction can be used to study the kinetic energy change due to the appearance of superconductivity. The results show, that the pairing mechanism is highly unconventional, and mostly associated with a lowering of kinetic energy parallel to the planes when pairs are formed.

Low-energy signatures of charge and spin fluctuations in Raman and optical spectra of the cuprates

We calculate the optical and Raman response within a phenomenological model of fermion quasiparticles coupled to nearly critical collective modes. We find that, whereas critical scaling properties might be masked in optical spectra due to charge conservation, distinct critical signatures of charge and spin fluctuations can be detected in Raman spectra exploiting specific symmetry properties. We...

Electron-boson spectral density function of correlated multiband systems obtained from optical data: Ba0.6K0.4Fe2As2 and LiFeAs.

We introduce an approximate method which can be used to simulate the optical conductivity data of correlated multiband systems for normal and superconducting cases by taking advantage of a reversed process in comparison to a usual optical data analysis, which has been used to extract the electron-boson spectral density function from measured optical spectra of single-band systems, like cuprates...

عدم تقارن الکترون-حفره در کوپراتهای دمای بالا از دید نظری

Asymmetric features of various physical quantities in the normal and superconducting states between hole- and electron-doped cuprate high-temperature superconductors have been an issue of debate for a long time. Their exploration is very important for the understanding not only of the mechanism of high-Tc superconductivity but also of the nature of doped-Mott insulators. Presented in this rev...

Interplay between electron-phonon and Coulomb interactions in cuprates

Evidence for strong electron-phonon coupling in high-Tc cuprates is reviewed, with emphasis on the electron and phonon spectral functions. Effects due to the interplay between the Coulomb and electron-phonon interactions are studied. For weakly doped cuprates, the phonon self-energy is strongly reduced due to correlation effects, while there is no corresponding strong reduction for the electron...

Doping-dependent charge order correlations in electron-doped cuprates

Understanding the interplay between charge order (CO) and other phenomena (for example, pseudogap, antiferromagnetism, and superconductivity) is one of the central questions in the cuprate high-temperature superconductors. The discovery that similar forms of CO exist in both hole- and electron-doped cuprates opened a path to determine what subset of the CO phenomenology is universal to all the ...
